This year’s competitions weekends are as follows:
Festival of Trees- Thanksgiving weekend- November 26th 12pm- Located at the Cradle of Aviation in Garden City. I would like to one dance from every group. More info will be given out at a later time. Please sign waiver and bring back to the front desk. Please let me know if are unable to attend ASAP.
Long Island Nets Game- Nassau Coliseum- Sunday, March 18th at 3pm- will only be bringing “Get on Your Feet” and “Money” The fee is $35 dollars per dancer. Please let me know if you are available for that day ASAP.
March 9- 11th- Competition and Location TBA (fees are due January 9th)
March 24th- 25th Competition and Location TBA (fees are due by February 5th)
April 13th- 15th Competition and Location TBA (fees are due by February 26th)
*Competition schedules do not go out until a week before the competition. Please reserve the entire weekend because we do not know when your child will be dancing.
*There will be a full dress rehearsal on Saturday, March 3rd at 12:00pm. A full dress rehearsal means arrive in full hair, make-up, and costume. Please come dressed and ready to go! Make sure any adjustments that need to be made on costumes have been made.
Rules and Regulations:
*All students must attend award ceremonies for their groups. This is mandatory!!!!
*Consistent attendance in rehearsals is a must. PLEASE notify the front desk if you know already when your child will be missing rehearsal. If your child is sick and cannot sit and watch rehearsal please call the studio. Dancers will not be allowed to exceed more than five absences for competition rehearsals. Any student that has more than five absences will be taken off the team. The same rules apply for technique classes. Competitive students are only allowed to miss up to five classes a year. Anything exceeding over five absences must be made up.
*Consistent attendance in technique class is also very important. Your child is on a competition team because they represent the best among the studio. They will not get stronger if they don’t show for class. If they are going to miss ballet class then they need to make it up.
*Please do not send your child to class or rehearsal if they are sick. Please make sure they have gone 24 hours without fever, vomiting, etc.
*Team suits must be worn at competitions. Costumes are not to worn on stage. Team suits can be ordered for all new dance team members. Each team suit will cost $120 dollars and payment must be made by November 13th. Sample sizes will be available at the front desk. Every dancer must have a team suit and they must be worn to every competition.
*Competition fees have been added to you tuition. Competition fees for September also count for December. If your child is in three dances, then your monthly comp tuition is $60 a month, not $40.
*Please text @jcomand to 81010. Not only do I send emails out on a regular basis but also texts. This is extremely useful for rehearsal time changes and competition time changes.
*All private lessons must be paid at the time of the lesson! No exceptions.
If you do not show up for a scheduled lesson, you will be charged. If you have up to three unpaid private lessons your child’s private lessons will be discontinued until there is no outstanding balance. Please make sure you have your choreographer’s email or number so if you need to cancel you can contact them directly. We just ask that you please do not abuse this privilege to contact them about other matters. Students and parents are not to facebook teachers as well.
*A choreographer can not work around your schedule, if you can’t work with the choreographers hours and days then you must work with a different choreographer.
*If your child is a new competition team member, the jewelry, ponytail holders (for hip-hop dancers only) Earrings and necklaces will be $30 dollars for both and payment for jewelry will be due the same time costume money is due. If you are team member from last year that needs new jewelry please let us know.
- False eyelashes must be worn at all the competitions. They can be purchased at CVS. Please have them approved by one of the teachers.
- Full make-up must be worn at all competitions. All dancers must wear the same make-up. You can purchase make-up at the front desk. Please put $11 in an envelope with your child’s name on it.
- You will get a costume guide in the upcoming months that will tell you exactly what color tights, and shoes your child will need for each dance that they are in.
- Majority of the dances will have the same hair. Hair slicked back in a high bun (use the bunmaker, hairnets, lots of bobby pins and hairspray)
*Competition costumes are $90 each and payment is due NOW. IF PAYMENT IS NOT MADE ON TIME IT WILL OLD UP MY ENTIRE COSTUME ORDER. If a soloist would like a more elaborate costume then we can choose from a pricey costume company. The fee is $130 a costume. If you are interested please let your choreographer know ASAP.
If you would like to add some extra studs to the costume, or add to shoes, hair, make-up, etc. for solos, duets, and trio please consult their teacher first. Do not take it upon yourself to do it on your own.
SOLOIST ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR OLD GROUP COSTUMES FROM PREVIOUS YEARS.
*All competition students must obey the dress code rules.
Jazz and tap- fitted dancewear. Leotards, tights, jazz pants, dance shorts. No t-shirts, so stomachs showing. Dancers should not look sloppy.
Ballet- pink tights, black leotard, pink ballet shoes, no skirts
Lyrical- any color leotard, tights, shorts, leggings
Hair up at all times.
*Production rehearsals will begin in April. All team members must perform in the production piece. A schedule will be given out in February. Please DO NOT complain to me about where your child is placed in the dance. This is a dance that is strictly to showcase our teams and is our grande finale in the recital. They are all working together as a team.
*Competition students are required to be in all recital performances. Competition moms are required to help out with at least one show. Dads are welcome to help out with security and ushering. The recital will be at St. John the Baptist High School. Dates are TBA.
*Solos in the recital- Solos that are entered into the recital are entirely based on strength, ability, and age. Solos that are entered into the recital are entirely based on the decision of Janine and staff.
*Students will be assigned a “team sister”, they will be required to buy their sister a gift (no more than $10) or make them a gift before each competition. If their sister has a solo then they are required to be there to support during their performance. If you would not like your child to participate in this great team builder please let Erin know.
*Holiday Party- Saturday, December 16th at 3 to 4pm.
· All competition team students are required to take a summer dance intensive over the summer. When the summer schedule comes out please sign up for the intensive your child would like to take immediately. Please do not sign up the actual week of classes.
*Selection for summer pieces happens in March. Please RSVP as soon as you know if your child can participate in the summer piece. If your child pulls out of the piece once it is choreographed then they will not be invited back the following year. Your child can not be a part of the piece if they will be missing the entire week.
